Being Grateful to Allah SWT

When you woke up today, do you think you woke up because you wanted to or because it was the will and wish of Allah SWT?

Take a moment and ponder over this.

No right? It wasn’t you who caused your mind, body and soul to wake from the deep slumber; it was because Allah SWT caused you to wake, because Allah SWT commanded it. If we were to really ponder and consider the fact that we don’t actually have control of our physical being, we would remember Allah SWT more and we would spend every waking second of our lives being grateful to Him.

Shaykh Kamaluddin Ahmed DB gives a great example of when someone gives us a glass of coke, water or even tea, and the way we try to show our gratitude to that person, how we change our behaviour towards that person just because of that small act of kindness; because they did us a favour/small act of kindness. But, doesn’t Allah SWT grant us thousands upon thousands of favours every single day.

Your ability to blink is a blessing, your ability to hear is a blessing, your ability to see is a blessing, your ability to walk and breathe are all blessings!

Try and write a whole list of the blessings you’ve been given by Allah SWT, you wouldn’t be able to write it all down, you would continue writing and writing.

Without the ability to hear, you wouldn’t be able to listen to the Qur’an.

Without the ability to see, you wouldn’t be able to gaze upon the faces of your beloved parent’s! You would never see the Ka’bah!

Without teeth where would you be?

So read the Sunnah dua when waking, eating, sleeping, drinking and etc. Through these small acts of Shukr, you still wouldn’t be able to thank Him enough but maybe on the Day Of Judgement, these small acts of sunnah can be a means for you and me to enter Jannah. Just, be grateful to your Creator and your Sustainer
